The knitting industry is in the midst of a massive turnaround brought about by the adoption of circular economy. Manufacturers are no longer being concerned with fast fashion but finding interest in having a long-term sustainability, reductions in waste and the reuse of products in entire cycles. Firms are re-evaluating how they do things- fiber acquisition to end of garment- with the aim of reducing the effect on the environment.
Newer materials such as recycled polyester, organic cotton, and yarn made out of plants are taking place. There are brands that are joining forces with material scientists in order to produce either biodegradable or infinitely recyclable knitted materials. The old linear pattern of the make, wear, discard is giving way to the pattern that promotes re-use, repair and remanufacture.
